ALNESS United reduced the gap at the top of North Caledonian League Division Two to one point as they held off a fightback from Inverness Athletic to claim all three points at Dalmore Park.

The hosts went into the lead 2–0 up at half time thanks to a Ryan McFee penalty and an own goal from Craig Morrison.

Jordan Morrison pulled one back midway through the second half for Athletic, but they were unable to find an equaliser.

The two teams will meet again at Muir of Ord in January 9 in Athletic's final league game of the season where they must avoid defeat to keep their title hopes alive.

Alness United have four games in hand and victory against Athletic would mean only Nairn County A could stop them winning the league.
