Jordan Tillson is back doing what he feels he does best under Malky Mackay.

After spending last season in a box-to-box role, Tillson has been allowed to focus on breaking up other sides’ attacking moves at the base of Ross County’s midfield so far this season.

That is what he did for years at Exeter City, and that – with the bundles of energy from Harry Paton and Ross Callachan around him – seems to be where Malky Mackay sees him performing.

Tillson, as most players would, will happily play any way he is asked, but he is happy to be in a familiar role and confident things are close to clicking into gear under Mackay.

“It’s more like the role I’ve been used to,” he said.

“I’ve played everywhere over the last year-and-a-half, but I’m just happy to play wherever I’m asked to.

“I haven’t really spoken to the manager about it, he has just put me there.

“It’s obviously new for the gaffer here as well, but he has been brilliant at getting his points across.

“The lads are taking to it, they’re doing what he’s asking, and I think time will tell.

“We just need to keep working on things, and as long as we keep doing what he’s asking for there will be a point where it all clicks and comes together nicely.”

Last weekend’s trip to Easter Road produced a disappointing result against Hibernian.

County’s pre-season was disrupted by Covid-19, but Tillson hopes they can use a rare free weekend to make up for lost time.

“All the boys feel fit, but there is obviously something that we missed in those two weeks of pre-season,” Tillson said.

“There is work that we would have done, so there’s obviously something that we can use this break to catch up on.

“I feel like we’re up to speed in games. I don’t know how to say it really, we just need to get some work done and get going again.”
