Easter Ross man set for Hong Kong international debut

FORMER Ross Sutherland, Melrose, and Scotland under 21 player David Whiteford will make his international debut for Hong Kong this Saturday in the opening match of the 2013 HSBC Asia 5 Nations against United Arab Emirates.

David, who now qualifies for his adopted country Hong Kong after completing his three year residency in March, is general manager of Hong Kong Scottish Rugby Club for whom he also plays.

Hong Kong Scottish was recently set up by David and prominent members of the Scottish ex-pat community. The team plays in the Premiership, which is Hong Kong’s senior league, and finished fourth in only its second season.

Dave said: "Its a great honour to be called up to the HK National team for the first time. It is also great for HK Scottish to have representation in the team given the fact that the club is less than two years old."

The teams competing in the 2013 HSBC Asia 5 Nations are Japan, South Korea, Philippines, United Arab Emirates, and Hong Kong.

David is a former pupil and head boy of Tain Royal Academy and graduated from Edinburgh Napier University with a degree in marketing. He comes from Castlecraig, Nigg where his parents live.
