Dingwall fencer is on point to get Scotland call-up

FENCER Tom Hoffmann says he is relishing the prospect of competing for his country on the other side of world and is confident he can return with a medal.

The Dingwall Fencing Club athlete has been called up to the Scotland squad for the Commonwealth Fencing Championships, being held in Canberra, Australia in November.

Meeting the selection criteria was the culmination of 11 months of hard toil for the 22-year-old from Strathpeffer who four years ago was the youngest member of the bronze-winning Scotland men’s epee team in Glasgow’s Commonwealth Games.

The self-funded fencer has been brandishing the blade since the age of seven and has accumulated 10 Scottish national titles and six senior open titles, while representing Great Britain eight times internationally.

His latest achievement, though, promises to eclipse the lot.
