The Highland Boxing Academy athlete was victorious in the Development E 57kg final when he defeated Conor Hynd from Beath Boxing Club.

Urquhart is a five time national champion winning titles at junior, youth and intermediate/senior level in the past.

His title win was made more impressive as it was the first time he had competed in a competition since the pandemic.

HBA head coach Liam Foy says it was a terrific performance from Urquhart to claim the gold medal.

“Lewis had not boxed for three years and had not boxed in a fight since the pandemic.

“It was a long awaited return for him to get back to action.

“He was in a tough fight and got the 3-2 decision and we were delighted that he managed to come away with the win.

“He was facing a good opponent who was a silver medallist.”

There was also gold success for fellow HBA athlete Lindsay Fulton who came out on top in the Development D 57kg when she defeated Destany Robertson.

The HBA fighter proved too good for the North West Boxing Club pugilist as she forced a third round stoppage to claim the title.

Andrew Mclaughlan also reached the final of his category, but finished with silver after missing out on gold due to a 3–2 decision.

He missed out victory by split decision in a close contest in the final.

Foy says it was a terrific performance from all of their fighters at Ravenscraig. He was delighted with the medal tally they returned to the Highlands with.

He said: “Overall, I was delighted with the performance of everyone who took part at the championships.”
