Connor Randall may have spent weeks on the sidelines watching Ross County play while out injured, but even he could tell that last week’s dominating win over Dundee was a long time in coming.

It was a massive relief for the Staggies at Dens Park as they recorded their first win of the season in the Premiership, briefly closing the gap at the bottom of the table to one point.

The game also marked Randall’s return to the starting line-up having gone off late in the draw away at Aberdeen.

That possibly gave him a different perspective on the team’s performances, which led to one point from six games, but throughout his absence from the squad he was just as confident that things would turn around.

“It was something that was coming – our performances had warranted better results,” Randall insisted.

“We felt that when it all clicks, we were capable of doing that against teams. Dundee was a confidence booster and it was a good atmosphere after the game. Everyone at the club was happy with the result.

“We needed it, but that was over as soon as we got the win and the main focus went on the next game. Week by week we have been improving and the manager’s ideas have been implemented more in games.

“It takes time when a new squad comes together. We have had good performances and good elements of most games. If we can put that together and put in strong performances, it can turn into a good season.”

Some of County’s best performers have been out wide – Regan Charles-Cook and Joseph Hungbo – and when playing Randall has the best view of them in action from full back.

“Regan has been brilliant for us this season,” Randall added.

“He has come back and been fantastic, and obviously Joe as well – they’re exciting players and you would fancy them against any full back in the league.

“To have them in your side and give us the attacking prowess that we’ve got, we need to shore things up as a team. That’s something that we want to do.

“It obviously gives you more of a chance in a game, but we fancy ourselves going up against anyone in the league.

“We just need to keep doing what we’re doing, and we believe that we can get the results that we need to turn this into a good season.”

Ross County’s full squad are in training ahead of Sunday’s trip to Rangers, with only Jake Vokins short of match sharpness.
