KEITH Watson says there was anger, disappointment and words from several players after Ross County suffered a 6-1 humiliation to Hearts on Saturday.

The Staggies are now four points adrift in the Premiership after being hammered at Tynecastle, with Dundee United and Kilmarnock winning last weekend.

Watson admitted the atmosphere in the dressing room was an unhappy place to be after full time.

But he says they have to put it behind them and concentrate on ensuring Ross County remain in the top flight next season.

Speaking about the dressing room at full time on Saturday, he said: "There was disappointment, anger and words from various players in there.

"The boys are an honest group and know they are well below where they should be.

"It could have been more than what Hearts actually scored.

"We can't sit in there and feel sorry for ourselves, what good will that do?

"We will analyse how bad it was and put it to bed quickly."

Ross County will face Livingston, St Johnstone and Motherwell, along with Dundee United and Kilmarnock in the bottom six of the split.

Watson says Saturday's result was a wake up call and they know improvement is required to save their season.

"There are five cup finals to look forward to, it will be tough but I fancy our chances," he said.

"I know how good this group is and we have showed we can give Celtic and Rangers a game. We will take confidence from that."

Speaking about the wake up call, he said: "That is what we need to use it as.

"We can't dwell on it too much, it was not like us and we are not happy with how we played.

"We have always been in games, even when we were 1-0 down we always had a chance of getting back into games.

"But we were all over the shop chasing shadows, the boys know it is not good enough."

He added: "I have been down there with Ross County before, it just takes a team that will fight for everything.

"We need the full squad to get out of this situation, it will be difficult but we have the squad where everyone will be at it.

"The main word is consistency, one week we play well and the next week the performance drops. "We are not too sure why this happens, it is difficult to get to the bottom of.

"We have good players and a close knit group, it is a great bunch of boys and we need to fight for each other. It will be difficult and be consistent against teams around us.

"Against teams in the split we have decent records, we need to use that and take confidence."
