Ross County's club captain Andrew Davies has left the club after both parties mutually agreed to terminate the defender's contract, the club have announced.

Davies was the first captain to lift a major trophy with the Staggies, as he led them to League Cup success in March 2016.

But after three years in Dingwall, he has parted ways with the club, citing personal and family reasons and his desire to return to England as the reason for his departure.

He has gotten his wish, as he was announced as a Hartlepool United player very quickly after news broke of his County release.

He had been a key member of the first team squad at County, making more than 100 appearances across all competitions in his time at the club.

Davies becomes the fifth defender to leave the club this summer after Harry Souttar and Max Melbourne's loan deals expired, and Christopher Routis and Jason Naismith both departed.

But the Staggies have moved to shore up their defence in the last week, with Callum Morris, Keith Watson and Stelios Demetriou arriving at the club.
