STEVEN Craig doubled up to help Ross County to a 4-2 friendly win at Forres Mechanics on Thursday night.

The Highland League hosts found themselves a goal down after just nine minutes against the Dingwall side, who are seen by many as dark horses for the Irn Bru Division One title.

Mark Corcoran, who scored in Tuesday’s victory at Clach in Inverness, was the provider for the opener as he cut the ball back for Craig, who drilled the ball beyond goalkeeper Stuart Knight.

The Can Cans then fell two behind moments later when Kurtis Byrne, who signed a one-year deal in the summer from Hibs, attacked down the left side and his cross was met by a delightful Craig header.

The goals kept coming and the Staggies soared 3-0 ahead when Byrne delivered, this time from the right side, and ex-Celtic midfielder Paul Lawson swerved a shot beyond Knight into the net.

County captain Richard Brittain then Corcoran almost netted a fourth, but that margin was achieved just before the interval.

Stuart Kettlewell fed the ball out wide to Byrne and the striker wasted no time in chipping the ball delightfully over the keeper and into the net.

Ex-County full-back Daniel Moore pulled one back for Forres and they scored again with nine minutes to through Garry Tweedie.

It’s now three wins on the trot then for County on their Highland League pre-season tour, which continues away to Keith on Tuesday night.
