Don Cowie’s return to action will prove to be a boost for Ross County as his experience will be vital in improving the team’s fortunes according to co-manager Steven Ferguson.

The midfielder played his first competitive game in nine months after undergoing surgery in the 3–0 defeat against Celtic last weekend.

Ferguson says having the 36-year-old available again is a huge boost for the Staggies as they attempt to fight against relegation.

“Don Cowie has been out for nine months and managed to come in and give 80 minutes,” said Ferguson.

“He had only played 60 minutes in a reserve game up to now although he has been training exceptionally hard.

“Don brings the energy, experience, composure and is a good voice on the pitch.

“We definitely benefited as did the players around him.”

Captain Marcus Fraser was forced to come off two minutes into the second half at Celtic and it is not known whether he’ll be available for tomorrow’s match at Ibrox.

Despite the result, Ferguson was pleased with how his team performed on Saturday saying it was a marked improvement on the 6–0 defeat they suffered at Celtic Park earlier this season.

“We feel there has been a marked improvement,” he said.

“We wanted to make sure that we were in the game but also wanted to offer a threat at the top end of the pitch.

The chances we made probably suggests that we got it right and the players did what was expected of them on the day.

“But unfortunately we didn’t take the chances and if you don’t do that you’re vulnerable to conceding a goal at Parkhead due to the quality of the Celtic team.”

He added: “ Offensively and defensively it was definitely an improvement on the last time we were here.

“We don’t want to be glorious losers, we are disappointed losing the game 3–0. But in the dressing room we didn’t think it was 3-0 in the game. But the scoreline tells us it was so we accept it.”
