Jordan Tillson insists Ross County’s spirit and morale remains buoyant despite a poor points return on positive performances in recent matches.

Since recording back-to-back victories in the opening two Premiership matches, the Staggies have gleaned just two more points in five games after experiencing four extremely tight encounters and an unlucky five-goal beating by champions Celtic.

After seven games, the Dingwall team remains best of the rest in a tight pack of eight outside the big city four of Celtic, Rangers, Hibs and Aberdeen.

Ahead of tomorrow’s crucial test away to St Johnstone, though, 27-year-old midfielder Tillson made it clear that County’s tight-knit squad were working on shortcomings while accentuating the positives from Saturday’s skewed outcome against fortunate Celtic.

“It’s been a good start, but we’re realistic,” Tillson said.

“We’ve got a tough run of fixtures coming up and we’re going to have to try and pick up points off these teams.

“It’s no surprise the quality teams in this league have, but we have shown our own qualities. We’re going into every game looking to give a winning performance.

“That’s what we try to do every time we step out on the pitch, but sometimes things get out of your control.

“We’re in a good place and, if we keep playing the way we are, I have no doubt we will pick up a good number of points.

“It is just the way it has been rolling for us at the moment, really, but we’re still confident, with a real togetherness in the squad. We have some great characters and everyone is in it together. I think that shows in the performances.”

The former Exeter man has never faced the Perth Saints since arriving in January, but added: “I think they’re going to be a different test and it will be tough. Every game in Scotland is highly-competitive.”
