ROSS County’s Irn Bru Division One game against Queen of the South on Tuesday night was abandoned due to floodlight failure – for the second time in two months.

The Staggies were leading 2-0 in Dumfries thanks to goals from Johnny Flynn and Andy Barrowman, but a generator below the main stand burst into flames and caused some of the lights to go out.

The match commander decided the only option was to call a halt to the action.

It means County will make their fourth 12-hour round trip of the season to Palmerston Park in the coming weeks, but will be reeling as they were bang on course for a massive win.

Victory on Tuesday would have shot them four points clear of relegation play-off rivals Cowdenbeath, with just three games to go.

The Queens, who County beat 2-0 in the Alba Challenge Cup final more than two weeks ago, are a team toiling, having conceded 10 goals in the last two games.

The Dingwall club will hope they can repeat this performance when the sides go head-to-head again.
