ROSS County conjured the perfect response to the midweek Scottish Communities League Cup blues by getting back to winning ways on the road.

Another three points on the board following a 1-0 victory over Raith Rovers moved the Dingwall side up to fourth position in Scottish Football League Division 1.

A late Scott Boyd goal was enough to secure all three points and to end the week on a high following Wednesday's defeat to Celtic. It was doubtless a satisfying strike for the 6ft 2in defender whose unfortunate own goal on Wednesday effectively ended the tie.

The match with Raith looked to be heading for yet another draw untithe Ginger Pele headed home Gary Miller's cross with eight minutes left.

Elsewhere, Ayr defeated Queen of the South by the odd goal, bottom-of-the-table Dundee went down at home to Hamilton and Livingston beat Patrick Thistle. Falkirk were brought back down to earth after dumping Rangers out the League Cup midweek, going down 3-2 away to Morton, who remain on top.

In the top tier, Celtic left Inverness Caledonian Thstle rooted to the bottom of the table with a 2-0 home victory.
