Malky Mackay admits that who he knows, as well as what he knows, will be crucial in Ross County’s squad rebuilding work.
Working in tandem with head of analysis Enda Barron, the Staggies’ boss has been leaving no stone unturned in pursuit of gems in the market who hold a mix of potential and time-proven first team ability.
The first three captures, Victor Loturi, Yan Dhanda and George Harmon all fit that strategy with a readiness to step straight into the first team, as well as promise for the future.
“Yan has had 60-odd games in the Championship in England, and Victor has been playing against men every week for two years in Canada,” Mackay said.
“George is a player with potential, but he’s also played men’s football for two years, and I’m expecting him to come in and be ready. We have got to look at different parts of the world. We have a strong base to start with now. Last year was carnage, with 20 players out and a new manager in.
“We give potential signings a welcome pack on what they can expect from the club and the area. That body of work shows how we did last year and how players have come in and done well.
“All of that helps and I’ve had slightly easier conversations this year with agents. No matter where it is, we look to see if we know someone in that part of the world and that was true of these three, including at Calvary in Canada. Finding out about a player’s character or personality is massively important.”
