Around 70 people attended the opening day to see the improved greens where the old banks were replaced after 33 years.

Bob Stewart one of the founder members of the Club 33 years ago, along with invited family members from other founder members and many came to see all the finished work and the upgrades made to the banking.

Stewart along with Ali Matheson threw the jacks to officially open the green for the new season.

The work was funded with support from the Lottery Community Fund with Tulloch Homes Ltd providing all the blocks for free with building firm AP Matheson carrying out the work.

He said: “They carried out the work to the very highest standard.

“We now have excellent bowling facilities with disabled access on to the green and into the clubhouse.

“We wanted to do this to mark the wonderful work our founder members did to get the bowling club set up for the communities of Conon Bridge and Maryburgh.

“We wanted to thank them for helping us get to where we are today, a club thriving with an increasing membership.

“We also look forward to welcoming the local primary school to use the bowling green and to enjoy this wonderful game.

“Everyone enjoyed the day which finished off with food and refreshments in the Clubhouse.”

Macdonald hopes that the upgraded facilities will help boost the sport in the area and encourage a new generation of players to take up the game.

The club run initiatives to attract new players to bowls.

“Conon/Maryburgh Outdoor Bowling Club is at the heart of the community and we want everyone in the community to be at the heart of the Club, said Macdonald.

“ We have got six coaches who can teach the game of bowls to anyone who wishes to learn the game.

“We have ‘Try Bowls’ events coming up and these are fun days for everyone of all ages to come and have a throw.

“Everyone in the community is welcome every Tuesday and Friday evening and Thursday afternoons to come along and enjoy a fun game of bowls.
