Park Primary: looking forward to some competition

A NEW primary football tournament – which has attracted entries from 16 Ross-shire schools – is set to kick-off in Invergordon on Thursday (June 4).

The idea for the competition came from Park Primary teacher, Iain MacIver, who felt his school football team lacked ompetition.

He told the Ross-shire Journal: “A football competition for primary school teams is something that has been lacking in the area for some time now. In fact, there was no competitive football at all. I thought it was about time something was done.”

Mr MacIver explained the 16 teams that have entered will be placed into four groups of four, with the top two going on to play in one competition, while the third and fourth placed teams will play in another.

The tournament, which been financed by an £800 cash windfall from local firm, Global Energy, has two trophies up for grabs.

The MacGregor Shield and the Global Energy Shield, with medals for the winners and runners-up, will be played for by each group.

He added: “We are hoping to expand the competition next year, with west coast teams competing as well – it will be unlimited.”

The schools taking part are as follows – Group A - Dingwall, Coulhill, Kiltearn and Munlochy. Group B – Avoch, Tarradale, North Kessock and Resolis. Group C – Craighill, Strathpeffer, South Lodge and Cromarty. Group D – Park, Knockbreck, Hilton of Cadboll and Milton.
