AFTER another successful Scottish Open Golf Championship at Castle Stuart links, The European Tour Executive have — as they did twelve months ago — left north golf fans and businessmen on hold before making a decision as to where the 2013 event will be held, writes Robin Wilson.

If Alex Salmond has anything to do with their decision, the Scottish Open will see out its three-year agreement to be staged at Castle Stuart.

Scotland’s First Minister was a fine ambassador of the event last week spending all four days at the course, playing alongside world number one golfer, Luke Donald, in the Pro-Am and mixing with the crowds on every occasion.

The players and the fans returned in numbers to Castle Stuart and enjoyed a week of marvellous golf, helped in no small margin by a willing army of volunteers.

Admissions surged to 63,000 last week plus the huge support staff who all contributed to the Aberdeen Asset Management tournament’s success, won in the end by India’s Jeev Milkha Singh following a sudden-death play-off with Francesco Molinari.
