Keith Watson insists Ross County’s Premiership status will count for nothing in the play-offs against Partick Thistle.
A 3-1 defeat to Kilmarnock last Sunday meant that it would be the Staggies who would need to contest their top flight spot against a Championship outfit.
The first leg will come down at Firhill on Thursday evening, where County will need to bounce back to form quickly against a side who have scored 16 goals in their four play-off matches to reach the final.
While County are the higher tier side, then, Watson believes that element will go out of the window by the time kick off rolls around later this week.
“It’s just you and the team you are up against going at it,” he reasoned.
“Only one team can come out on top, so when it comes down to it we will give everything.
“I think a few boys have been watching (the play-offs). I know a few of the Partick boys as well so I know it’s going to be difficult.
“They have been flying recently, but we are going into it confident and fancying our chances.
“It will be two tough games, but we have two games to keep ourselves in the league and we will be going to do that.”
While momentum may be with Partick, County are not in bad form themselves having clawed back a four-point deficit going into the split to avoid automatic relegation.
“Going into the split we were four points adrift, and maybe a lot of people wrote us off a wee bit,” Watson added.
“We just keep on fighting. We don’t know when we are beaten.
“We showed that against St Johnstone when we were 2-0 down and we came back.
“There is plenty fight and effort in the team. We’ve just got to make sure we take that into the last two games and show the same effort and fight we have shown to get back involved again.
“We’ve got a few days to prepare and do our work on Partick. We will be going into the game raring to go.”
