It was a day where substitutes made the difference, as a back and forth game ended up all square in Dingwall.
County opened the scoring in the first half. A long ball forward was excellently controlled by Billy McKay into the path of Jason Naismith, whose shot was deflected into the path of Jamie Lindsay clean through on goal.
The midfielder made no mistake, slipping the ball past Woods and into the corner.
But half time, and the introduction of Douglas Imrie for the travelling side, changed the game.
Routis took down Lewis Ferguson inside the box quickly after the restart. And despite turning down many appeals in the first half, that was one too many for the referee to ignore, with Hamilton being awarded the chance to level the game from the spot, with Imrie coolly converting.
And Hamilton would not let up after scoring. A matter of minutes later, 99 found space on the edge of the box and got a shot away. It should have been saved by County keeper McCarey, but he let it slip past him and the visitors were in front.
As the game entered it’s final quarter it threatened to fizzle out, but Ross County substitute Craig Curran won a corner with 15 minutes left on the clock and that man Schalk stepped up to put the ball on a plate for Andrew Davies to get on the scoresheet in his first game back from injury, saving a point for the Staggies.
