Jimmy Calderwood could sense the job was not his.

JIMMY Calderwood insists Ross County's decision to reappoint Derek Adams didn't surprise him.

Speaking exclusively from his Spanish holiday, he said: "I spoke to the chairman this morning (Thursday) and he told me the news.

"The club had a decision to make and that's life. I've been in football long enough to know that when things take a while to happen - or not happen - there will be a certain outcome. I can't say I'm surprised by it, put it that way."

In February, former Aberdeen, Dunfermline Athletic and Kilmarnock boss Calderwood was brought in for 11 weeks with County in real danger at the foot of the table and he kept the club out with vital victories in the closing fortnight of the season.

Adams, who left the manager's job at County last year to become Colin Calderwood's assistant at Hibs, has agreed a new three-year deal.

In season 2009-10, Adams led the Staggies all the way to the Scottish Cup final at Hampden and joint-fourth place in Division One.
