BOWLS - Champions bowl over the competition in Black Isle League

The Black Isle and District Indoor Bowling League concluded their 2022/23 season with two finals being played for the top spot of the Fours and Mixed Pairs Lady Skips.

Vying for honours in the final of the Fours were two teams from the Ardross and Alness Bowling Club and in the Mixed Pairs were teams from Cromarty Bowling Club and Invergordon Bowling Club.

All teams had played knockout games throughout the 2022/23 league calendar, where games were played during timetabled pauses to the normal league fixtures, and played at various venues throughout the league area.

The Fours competition final was won by Duncan Adamson, Duncan Henderson, Tam Mulraine and Andrew Adamson.

The runners-up being John Meharry, David Oag, Jimmy Wilson, Tommy Cadden and reserve Donnie Beaton, all from the Ardross and Alness Bowling Club.

The Mixed Pairs competition final was won by Ina and Hugh MacDougall from Invergordon Bowling Club, with the runners up being Evelyn and Alex Wilson from Cromarty Bowling Club.

It was the first full competition season to have taken place since the COVID pandemic.

During the season there was also a number of notable champions.

Winner of the Champion of Champions was Jimmy Gallie, from Milton and District Bowling Club, and runner-up was Neil Mackay, from Maryburgh Bowling Club.

Winners of the League were Ardross and Alness Bowling Club and the runners-up were Milton and District Bowling Club.

Many clubs are now moving towards the conclusion of the indoor season.

Invergordon Bowling Club will start its outdoor season on Saturday April 15 and the club is open most afternoons from 2pm for anyone who wishes to come down and join our regular members to give bowls a try, alternatively their club night is on a Wednesday at 6.45pm.
