JACK Baldwin says Ross County know the importance of establishing a seven-point advantage over St Johnstone and moving clear of the relegation zone when the two teams clash in Dingwall on Saturday.

A poor second half from the Staggies saw them fall to their first defeat in five games in a 2–0 loss to Hibernian at Easter Road last weekend.

Meanwhile, St Johnstone moved off the bottom of the table with a 2–1 victory over Hearts in Perth.

After a poor start to the campaign, Ross County have been in good form which has seen them out of the bottom two.

But with six games left before the split, Baldwin says it is vital Ross County maintain a significant advantage over both St Johnstone and Dundee.

Looking ahead to Saturday, he said: “It is a massive game but at the end of the day all we can do is focus on ourselves.

“It is a cliché but it is true, we have to focus on our performances and the results will take care of itself.

“It is a big game next weekend and one that we will look to capitalise on.

“We will look to get our run of form up again and we will see Hibernian as a blip and go all in for the final run of the season.”

Baldwin says Ross County remain confident despite last Saturday’s defeat, saying the squad have come a long way since the beginning of the campaign.

“We can’t get away from the start of the summer as it was a wholesale change of players and it took a bit of time for performances to show and to getup and running,” he said.

“But over the Christmas period we have had some great results and in the new year too.

“It says a lot to come away from a place like Hibs and be disappointed because we know that we are better than that, as a team and we have shown better than that as well.”

Speaking about the 2–0 defeat at Hibs, Baldwin said: “We felt we had a good spell of the game for a large part of the first half. But we came out in the second half and we have not shown that again which is frustrating.

“The goals we conceded was the second phase of two set pieces, which is frustrating given how the game started.”
