Sportscotland have awarded the five-figure sum to help the club create a new clubhouse.

The facility will ensure that they can provide more training activities and will not be as severely impacted by the weather meaning that people will be able to develop and progress in rowing more easily.

The clubhouse will ensure the boats can be stored and maintained safely, and the club can attract regattas to the local area.

It will also allow the club to create a hub providing indoor physical activity and fitness opportunities for the wider community.

Welcoming the investment, Kathy Taylor, Secretary from Avoch Community Rowing Club, said:

“We are over the moon about the investment from the sportscotland Sports Facilities Fund. "Having this facility will be transformational for our club and means we can encourage lots of new members from all walks of life, and introduce them to the fabulous sport of coastal rowing and all its health and wellbeing benefits.”

Chief Executive of sportscotland, Forbes Dunlop, said: “The aim of the Sports Facilities Fund is to support sustainable and inclusive projects with their ambitions of using sport and physical activity to enhance the lives of their local communities.

“The physical and mental health benefits of sport are well documented, but equally important is the ability to create a space where everyone is welcome to participate at their own level.

“Despite a challenging financial climate, Avoch Community Rowing Club and Inverness Caledonian Thistle Community Development have demonstrated real commitment to ensuring that more people in Highland will have an opportunity to become physically active and connected to their local community."
