AVOCH continue their bid to win their first Highland Amateur Cup title in five years when they head to Ness in the last eight.

Avoch and Maryburgh played out a 1-1 draw.

The Inverness Premier Division leaders are travelling to Lewis as the last Ross-shire team remaining in the competition.

Avoch manager Martyn MacAllister says he hopes the long journey will be worth it and they make it into the semi finals of the competition.

“We will be travelling from Ullapool by ferry to get to the game.

“There is no accommodation available, so we are going to have to make the trip in one day.

“But that is the magic of the Highland Amateur Cup.

“We are going to deal with it and take each draw as it comes.”

Avoch are the second most successful club in the competition’s history, winning the trophy six times between 2006 and 2017.

Only Dunnet outfit Pentland United have won the competition more times, with eight trophies to their name.

However, MacAllister is confident his team are good enough to close that gap this season and win it for the seventh time.

“We have done well in the tournament in the last decade,” he said.

“It has brought the club a lot of joy, but we have also lost a few finals too.

“Once you get to this stage there are no easy games, they are all exciting games.

“Ness will be an away day, and we have not had many of those due to the pandemic in recent years.

“The boys are definitely looking forward to the occasion.”

Avoch are top of the Inverness and District Premiership by one point over Evanton outfit Black Rock Rovers.

MacAllister says a league and cup double would be a great achievement this season.

“We are the only team that is unbeaten in the league but we have had too many draws. But it has been a good season so far and I hope it continues.”
