ASPIRING young cricketers will be put through their paces in the shadow of an iconic Ross-shire landmark today.

A festival of cricket taking place at Castle Leod will see ten primary schools battle it out for the ultimate prize of taking on Nairn to determine the North of Scotland champions.

The winner of that encounter will then represent the area in national finals at Stirling.

Festival cricket coach Toby Hardwick, who has been conducting regular sessions in the schools, has been bowled over by the enthusiasm of the youngsters.

He said: “Young players are the future of cricket in the area and it will be great to see more than 100 kids playing at the festival.”

He hosts coaching classes on Monday evenings, which will continue throughout the summer and new players are always welcome.
