ANTICIPATION of Ross County's bow in the SPL is mounting by the day with less than two weeks now until the first match.

With fans known to be travelling from as far afield as Australia to be part of history, the club's backroom staff are pulling out all the stops to make sure everything goes ahead as planned

Tickets for both of the Staggies’ opening home games, against Motherwell on August 4 and Celtic on August 18, went on sale over the weekend.

The Dingwall-based outfit is now enjoying another burst of frenetic activity as fans from far and wide look to snap up their tickets.

General manager, Ranald Gilbert, shares the excitement of the fans - even if it means there’s no rest in sight for the staff at the newly renamed Global Energy Stadium.

He said: “I think we’ve all been amazed at the demand in the first few days of sale – probably because we feel like over the last two months we’ve already sold a season ticket to every single person in the Highlands and Islands!

"Having said that we have people coming from far and wide for both the Motherwell and Celtic matches – I thought the fan from Derbyshire had a chance of setting the distance record but since then I’ve found out we’ve got one loyal Staggie coming all the way from Australia for the Celtic game!

"Although it’s meant we’re all kept flat out, I think we’re enjoying the fact that after an unbelievably busy summer we’re now seeing the light at the end of the tunnel knowing that the first matches are so close and at the end of the day we all enjoy them as much as any other fan does!”

Tickets for both matches are available to purchase in person at the stadium or by calling 01349 860860 during normal office hours.

The club will also be open late until 8pm this Thursday and from 9am until 5pm on Saturday.

Tickets can also be purchased online 24 hours a day at www.rosscountyfootballclub.co.uk.

We'll have the latest from the County camp in this week's Ross-shire Journal.
