Alness United manager Robert MacCormack believes if his side can maintain their current good form, they can overcome Inverness Athletic tomorrow.

The race for the Ness Cup is hotting up, and Alness can give themselves room for error in the Division Two title race with a win over the league leaders.

Four points currently separate the sides, but Alness have three games in hand.

Athletic’s final two matches both come against a charging Alness.

So if MacCormack’s men win both of them the title will be theirs barring a remarkable collapse.

That is not at the forefront of MacCormack’s mind though, instead focusing on winning next time out.

“We’re not really focusing on the league table or anything like that, we’re just going out and trying to win every single game that we play,” he said.

“Inverness are obviously playing well, getting a few good results. They’re not top of the league for no reason, so they will be decent.

“We’ll have to play as well as we have been in the last couple of weeks, and if we do then I’m sure we’ll do okay.

“They’ve obviously taken a few guys in, I’ve seen their team, and to be fair they work hard.

“They’re getting the rewards now, they’re sitting top of the league, so fair play to them.”

Alness go into the match on a high, having beaten Loch Ness 5-1 last Friday, thanks in part to a hat-trick from Ryan McFee.

Michael Mackenzie and Ryan Stewart capped off the win, which could have been unexpected against a Loch Ness side that were flying high early on in the campaign.

That was just one of several positives that the club could take from the victory, with MacCormack pleased with their collective effort.

“It was another hat-trick for Ryan, but the whole team were absolutely tremendous,” MacCormack said.

“I thought we played some really good football, and to be honest I thought there was only going to be one winner, we were much the better team.

“It was pleasing for the guys who came off the bench – Michael Mackenzie has been out for almost two years now, it was his first game back and he came on and scored a goal which is absolutely brilliant.

“I was delighted with every single one of them.”
