Alness United aim for first victory in North Caledonian League

ALNESS United will look take confidence from their victory in the Football Times Cup when then head to Bonar Bridge in the North Caledonian League on Saturday.

Alness progressed to the quarter finals of the Football Times Cup last Saturday when they defeated Halkirk United 2-1 at Dalmore Park.

The hosts took control of the game and broke the deadlock midway through the first half when Stefan Luke found the net.

Alness doubled their advantage when Luke Mackay scored in the 32nd minute.

Halkirk pulled one back with 13 minutes remaining through a strike from Mark Munro.

But Alness held on to progress to the quarter finals.

In the league tomorrow, they face a much improved Bonar Bridge this season, who progressed into the semi finals of the Football Times Cup when they beat St Duthus 2-0 in Migdale.

Both goals came in the second half from Adam Mackay and Alex Mackenzie to seal their place in the last four.

Tain outfit St Duthus will looking to bounce back and find their first win of the season when they travel to Halkirk United,

Invergordon will be looking for revenge against Loch Ness in the league after suffering a 2-0 defeat in the first round of the cup.

Alan Macphee gave Loch Ness the lead before Josh Race killed the game off five minutes from time.

Elsewhere in the league, Inverness Athletic will look for their second win when they take on Clachnacuddin A at North Kessock.

In Kirkwall, bottom of the table Orkney will be looking for their first point of the campaign when they are scheduled to welcome Thurso from across the Pentland Firth.

Golspie Sutherland are in Scottish Cup preliminary second round action when they make the long trip to the Borders to face Hawick Royal Albert.

League leaders Fort William are also in Scottish Cup second preliminary round action as they are set to face Clydebank at Claggan Park with kick-off now taking place at 7.30pm.
