Alness United will aim to keep their North Caledonian League Division Two title destiny within their own hands as they travel to take on Loch Ness tonight.

Victory in Inverness would see Alness reduce the gap with league leaders Nairn County to at least two points for 19 hours.

Nairn welcome second place Inverness Athletic in a top of the table clash tomorrow which is a chance for United to put pressure on both teams with a positive result tonight.

Alness will still have three games in hand on both teams, but manager Robert MacCormack is refusing to get carried away with any talk about being title favourites.

“At the moment, things are looking good,” he said.

“But we have to keep focused going into every game just looking to win and then doing the same in the next one.

“Friday night is another tricky game but one that we are looking forward to.”

Alness reinforced their favourites tag as they thumped Nairn County 6–1 at Dalmore Park.

Ryan McFee was the hat trick hero as he scored three goals, his first eight minutes after Callum Gow gave Alness the lead midway through the first half for a 2–0 lead at the break.

McFee scored twice in the second half in-between Gordon Finlayson’s strike which made it 5–0.

Ciaran Young pulled one back with five minutes remaining but Euan Henderson scored in injury time to restore the five goal margin.

MacCormack says it was their best result of the campaign and gave special praise to hat trick hero McFee.

“Ryan played very well and I have been trying to get him playing more through the middle and scoring more goals and that is exactly what he did for us.

“It was a good result and we played a lot better than what we have in the last few weeks.

“We didn’t expect to be that dominant.

“Nairn were a good side but we played really well and got a good result which was pleasing after two poor games previously.”

Loch Ness are the only team to take points of Alness this season after a 1–1 draw last month.

MacCormack is looking to avoid a repeat tonight.

He said: ”If we play like we did on Saturday I am confident that we will get the three points.”
