Pupils at Ardross and Newmore primary schools in Easter Ross recently completed the Young Engineers Leaders Award, which is run through Strathclyde University.

The award entailed learning more about the profession as a career, interviewing local engineers, designing a product for the future and writing a pitch letter to go along with their design. They were challenged to encourage the representatives of Strathclyde University to make their product.

Along with many other visitors to the school, Henry and Phil Blake from Dingwall-based WoodBlocx went along to share their experiences. They were well worth listening to on the subject of making pitches for support having successful done so on television’s notoriously challenging Dragons’ Den.

They also kindly donated a bench to the children at Newmore Primary School.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the project and also received a lot of positive feedback from engineers who visited the school, one stating: “An absolute gem of a morning to experience the thoughts of the younger generation.”
