A row between two former partners who still live together in their shared council house led to one of them spending a night in police cells.

The incident on December 28 this year involved 68-year-old Henry Summerhill and his ex in their home in Kirkton Gardens, Lochcarron.

Fiscal depute David Morton told Sheriff Neil Wilson: "They were once in a relationship but have not been in one for a number of years. They continue to live together but in separate bedrooms.

"There was an argument which escalated and he acted aggressively towards her, calling her derogatory names, shouting, swearing and then threw a telephone at the wall. That was when the police were called."

Sheriff Wilson noted that Summerhill had been out of trouble for 18 years and said: "I regard this as a minor domestic disturbance."

He fined Summerhill, who admitted conducting himself in a disorderly manner, £320 and declined to impose a non-harassment order.

The sheriff added: "You can sort things out as responsible adults but when you return home and you are not allowed in, don't force your way in or you will be back here and not treated so leniently."
