AN Easter Ross show of support for a mental health charity working across the Highlands has heartened volunteers offering a lifeline to people in need.

On Monday this week, to coincide with World Mental Health Day, Mikeysline was joined by members of Alness Area Jog Scotland and others to light up Yankee Pier and share a message of hope.

Around 100 people turned up for the event which saw a gathering at the town's Crawl Park before a procession down to the landmark pier.

The initiative aimed to send the message that where there's night, there's light and that in the darkest moments there is always hope.

Mikeysline's Bonnie McColl said it was delighted with the turnout, adding: "It was a fabulous evening raising awareness that mental health matters."

Fundraising manager Katie Melville said there had been great support from the local community with some young families with babies in buggies joining the procession.

She said: "These things just sometimes grow organically. People just took up the idea. It was lovely to see people getting out – some are still re-emerging after the pandemic. Sometimes you just need people to show up for each other."

She thanked everyone who contributed to making the event a success, amongst them members of Alness Jogscotland.

The Alness Hive is available on Wednesdays and is located at The Place youth group premises in the town. To find out more, see www.mikeysline.co.uk/
