A WORLD-famous cyclist believes the North Coast 500 has transformed the far north from an "unknown wilderness" for biking enthusiasts "to an absolute bucket-list challenge".

Guinness World Record breaking endurance cyclist Mark Beaumont was speaking after plans for two exclusive, ultra-distance rides on the route were announced for next year.

‘The North Coast 500 Challenge with Mark Beaumont’ will take place on May 4 and August 31 next year – and cyclists can join him for £2500 a pop.

Places are available to book now through Aviemore-based adventure tour operator, Wilderness Scotland.

Over the course of five days, beginning and ending in Inverness, riders will cycle clockwise around a newly created North Coast 500 cycling route, travelling more than 500 miles.

Each trip includes all accommodation, meals and energy snacks and drinks, logistical support throughout, an expert guide from Wilderness Scotland, and the company of one of the world’s most experienced endurance athletes. To reserve a space, visit www.wildernessscotland.com

Mr Beaumont said: "It truly is the most breathtaking route in the UK."
