INVERNESS Airport is the growing gateway to the Highlands, with hundreds of thousands of tourists visiting us each year – but it's also the hub for Highlanders looking to travel to the world.

We're proud to say that we offer direct flights to some of the UK's largest cities, such as London, Manchester, and Belfast, getting you there in around only two hours. An even wider range of destinations can be reached directly too, placing us just one flight away from an overseas holiday to the likes of Dublin, Amsterdam, Italy and Majorca. However, a lot of us living in the Highlands don't realise how easy it is to explore the globe even further by utilising the great connections these cities have to offer.

British Airways, KLM, easyJet and Loganair are just some of our carrier partners that can take you to the world with ease. Great international connectivity and airline codeshare agreements mean you could leave from Inverness Airport and arrive in the likes of Cuba, Australia, New York, Brazil and Canada with multiple flights condensed into one ticket, only one check in, one luggage drop off and one collection – leaving you more time to catch your connections and browse duty free. Passengers from Inverness Airport who take advantage of these agreements between airlines, and fly frequently, could see a great rise in their accrued flier miles. Such codeshare partnerships allow passengers to gather miles over multiple airline carriers used within one trip, whereas normally this might not be the case. Airlines flying from Inverness Airport have partnerships with the likes of Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Norwegian Air, Virgin Atlantic, China Eastern Airlines, Qatar Airways and Emirates.

As a small, personable airport, it's not just great service and often shorter security lines that you're receiving as part of your journey; we can also offer competitive long-haul flight prices. As we're exempt from paying Air Passenger Duty (APD) tax, you'll often find that long haul journeys further afield can actually be cheaper when you leave from Inverness Airport. Meaning no A9 drives down to busy central belt airports that are often situated far from the nearest car park and no excessive rail or fuel prices.

The arrival of the new Courtyard by Marriott hotel, opening this spring, will also help those further afield than Inverness to have a smoother start to their holiday. 'Red-eye' flights are often the ones that will get you the best international connections, which means an even earlier start for those who live around the Highlands in towns such as Wick and Thurso. Travelling down the day before, instead of the morning of, allows you to have a good night's sleep and wake up only a two-minute walk from the airport terminal itself – offering a well-rested start to any holiday!

There are many adventures just waiting to be had – so be inspired to explore the world from your local Highland airport and see where we could be taking you!
