A WOMAN has been airlifted to Raigmore Hospital following a crash on the A832 in Wester Ross.

The crash, which took place at around 9.30am this morning, happened on the A832 just after Achanalt train station east of Achnasheen. The crash took two Range Rovers off the road, with one woman being taken in to Raigmore Hospital.

The Achanalt to Garve road was said by some to be covered in black ice 'like glass' with no signs of grit by residents who had driven the road this morning, before and after the crash.

Eyewitnesses also said a helicopter arrived to the scene at 11:09am. Police cars, fire engines, and ambulances from Dingwall were also said to have arrived after the crash.

An eyewitness also said a Highland Council gritter was sent out after the accident occurred, at 10.10am.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 9.30am on Tuesday, December 20, to reports of a road traffic collision on the A832 near Achanalt.

"Operations Control mobilised three appliances to the scene, where crews worked to extricate a female casualty from a vehicle that had left the road.

"She was then handed into the care of paramedics."

Police Scotland said: "We were made aware of two vehicles which had come off the A832 near Achanalt around 9.30am on Tuesday, December 20.

"One woman has been taken to Raigmore Hospital by air ambulance and the road has been fully cleared."

The extent of any injuries is unknown at this stage.

One driver posting on social media noted "road was like a bottle from Garve to Achnasheen at 5 this morning".
