A woman serving in the Navy got "very drunk" after splitting up with her husband and drove home.

However such was his concern for her welfare, 48-year-old Marie Frain's estranged spouse phoned the police and a look-out for her was issued on June 19 2021, Inverness Sheriff Court was told.

Fiscal depute David Morton said officers located her near her home in Bellfield Road, North Kessock, and she gave a positive breath test.

Frain's reading of 138mcgs of alcohol was almost seven times the legal limit of 22mcgs in her system.

Defence solicitor Shahid Latif told Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald that his client had been going through a traumatic time but she and her husband had since got back together.

Fining Frain £1000 and banning her from driving for 32 months, Sheriff Macdonald told her: "You were very drunk when you drove. You could have caused significant harm to yourself and others.

"This was very dangerous behaviour. You may have had difficulties in your life but that is no excuse to go and drive."

The sheriff certified Frain as suitable to participate in the Drink Drivers Rehabiltation Scheme, which she must fund herself.

With successful completion her ban would reduce by eight months.
