Winners of Highland Heroes announced in Inverness

Winners of the annual Highland Heroes have been announced today in Inverness.

A special celebration, organised by Highland News and Media, at the Drumossie Hotel brought together unsung heroes from across the region.

More than 300 people saw Inverness medic Andy Kent crowned hero of heroes. He also collected the healthcare accolade in recognition of his efforts for medical charity UK-Med in Ukraine following the Russian invasion.

An emotional evening of tears, laughter, entertainment, fabulous food and drink, and great camaraderie saw more than a dozen other awards handed out.

All the award winners were:

  • Brave child: Gracie Andrew. Runners-up: Alfie Ross, Gracey Wemyss.
  • Primary pupil: Kornelia Porozynska. Runners-up: Marina Price, Yeva Ivanstok.
  • Primary teacher: Beth Fuller. Runner-up: Ethan Walker.
  • Secondary pupil: Olivia Macleod. Runners-up: Lily Kelman, Matthew McCreadie.
  • Secondary teacher: Chris Aitken. Runner-up: Flo Skinner.
  • School: Muirtown Primary. Runners-up: Ness Castle Primary, Noss Primary.
  • Volunteer: Ronnie Mitchell. Runners-up: Bill Whyte, George King.
  • Healthcare: Andy Kent. Runners-up: Shannon Murray, Melanie Mitchell.
  • Emergency services/armed forces: Rescue 151. Runner-up: Andy Pearson, RNLI Thurso Lifeboat Station.
  • Charitable organisation: Highland and Islands Blood Bikes. Runners-up: James Support Group, Befrienders Highland.
  • Fundraiser: Chloe Tuach. Runners-up: Iain MacRae, Paul Wilson.
  • Community champion: Suzy Reid. Runners-up: Julie Mackinnon, John Douglas.
  • Green hero: Martin and Claire Murray. Runner-up: Caroline Woods and Alasdair Maclennan.
  • Carer: Louise Borland. Runners-up: Aaron Taylor, Grace Dennison White, William Urquhart.
  • Hero of heroes: Andy Kent.
