A Ross-shire man took it hard when his former partner began a new relationship, visiting her home to remonstrate with her.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that 38-year-old father of three John Brown, of Jubilee Park Court, Dingwall, lost his temper, banged on the woman's back door and later broke a window on April 4 last year.

Brown admitted threatening behaviour, striking the door and breaking a window of the property in Munro Place.

He was fined £470.

Fiscal Niall Macdonald told Sheriff Margaret Neilson that the couple had been in a long term relationship which ended in September 2019.

"He would visit the property to see the children and feed a bird of prey he kept in a shed there," he said.

"She had arranged that he would not enter her home, but he went to the back door and asked repeatedly to get in, accusing her of 'cheating' on him.

"He called her derogatory names and struck the door a number of times, which caused her alarm. He left.

"She phoned the police but after the officers left he returned, and punched a window, breaking it. Then he ran off."

Defence solicitor David Patterson said there had been no further offending involving his client.

"The relationship is well and truly over," he told the court. "They weren't good for each other. He took it quite hard when she moved on and took up with a new partner.

"He is now in a new relationship and is off the drink."
