A substantial long-established tree at Lael Forest, near Ullapool, has fallen due to the ferocious winds seen in Wester Ross at the weekend.

The fallen tree is only one of several trees which have fallen in Wester Ross over the last few days.

The Met Office hasnow issued a yellow weather warning for strong winds in the north and north-western Highlands, on Wednesday January 31, from 7am until 7pm.

There is also a band of rain forecast to sweep in from the north-west.

As well as strong winds, January 28 also saw disturbingly-warm winter temperatures of up to 19.6°C in Wester Ross.

The balmy temperatures, combined with strong winds and dry land, unfortunately kicked up a perfect storm for a wildfire in Assynt on January 28.

The wildfire at Glencanisp in Assynt, spread across more than five miles of land due to strong western gales, with fire fighters from Ullapool and Lairg at the scene.

Thankfully, no property or people were harmed from the blaze, and it was extinguished by a heavy rain shower about two hours after the fire began.
