A WILDFIRE has broken out in Wester Ross – amid an ‘extreme’ warning from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

The public have been urged to "avoid the area” after the blaze broke out at Laide Wood.

The A832 is currently closed between Aultbea and Laide.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service are currently dealing with a fire at Laide Wood.

“The A832 is currently closed between Aultbea and Laide. The public are asked to avoid the area.”

The wildfire comes just a day after the SFRS issued an ‘extreme’ wildfire warning for western coastal areas of mainland Scotland, as well as the Hebrides.

Since that warning, major wildfires have broken out on Harris and Benbecula, followed by tonight’s blaze in Wester Ross.
