Coigach Community Development Company (CCDC) in Achiltibuie is inviting residents to choose the name of a new affordable housing development.

Coigach has seen a rising demand to secure community housing in the area, amidst an ever-growing number of holiday-lets in the area. This struggle to secure affordable housing, often for young families, has resulted in some being forced to move away from the area.

As a solution, with help from multiple funding grants, the CCDC has received permission to build a new affordable housing on the old hydroponicum site in Achiltibuie, as well as the former smokehouse.

The next phase of the project invites Coigach residents to choose the name for the new housing development.

The CCDC said: "All Coigach residents are being invited to choose their favourite from a shortlist of five names suggested by members of the community."

The names are:

  • An Taigh Geal (The White House)
  • Ach' a' Ghàrraidh (Field of the Garden)
  • Port a' Chamis (Port of the gulf)
  • An Cala (The Haven)
  • Camas an Dòchais (Bay of Hope)

Voting will be open until midnight on February 10, and the winning name will be announced at Coigach Community Rowing Club's fundraising soup and sandwiches on Sunday, February 11.

To vote, visit CCDC's SurveyPlanet link here.
