WORKS at a busy Easter Ross road junction are set to begin again next month.

The roadwork at Skiach Services B9176 junction with the A9 will begin again on Monday, August 7 and last for nine nights.

The resurfacing project was due to have been completed by Tuesday, July 18.

BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland’s operating company, said the work had been reprogrammed due to unforeseen circumstances.

The new completion date is 7am on Friday, August 18.

Works will take place overnight between 7pm and 7am.

There will be no works on Friday and Saturday nights.

For safety reasons, from 7pm on Monday, August 7, the A9 will be closed at Skiach Services.

Traffic travelling northbound will be diverted from the A9 at Skiach Services on to the B9176, then on to the B817 to Westford roundabout, on to Teaninich Avenue, then back on to the A9.

Traffic travelling southbound will be diverted from the A9 on to Teaninich Avenue to Westford roundabout, then on to the B817 followed by the B9176 at Skiach Services, then back to the A9.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s north west representative, said: “These maintenance works on the A9 will help address defects and greatly improve the surface for road users.

“The use of an overnight road closure while we complete the final phase of the scheme is essential to ensure the safety of road workers and motorists.

“We thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete this project. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”

Real time journey information is available from Traffic Scotland on www.traffic.gov.scot or Twitter at @trafficscotland.

Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.

The works are weather dependent, any significant changes or delays to the programme will be advertised.

Emergency services will be able to pass through the works at all times.
