A 26-year-old Wester Ross man who was caught by police with 275 grams of herbal cannabis in the boot of his car was ordered to carry out 90 hours of unpaid community work.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that Louis Chautems from Altan Dubh, Achiltibuie admitted being concerned in the supply of cannabis in North Road, Ullapool on February 14, 2019 and then giving a false name to police in an attempt to pervert the course of justice.

Fiscal depute Niall Macdonald said that police received intelligence that Chautems may be carrying drugs in his red Mercedes.

Officers stopped the vehicle and Chautems volunteered the information that "weed" was in the boot.

"In a carrier bag was 275 grams of herbal cannabis which if sold in one gram amounts, could fetch up to 4,000 pounds.
