A WESTER Ross community group behind one of the most eagerly anticipated festive lights switch-ons in the Highlands has thanked supporters for chipping in towards its costs.

Ullapool Fire and Light had launched a £750 fundraiser to help meet the costs of the event, which drew hundreds of people earlier this month.

A much talked about creel tree with crab on top is at the centre of the display.

The volunteer-run group has hosted the community bonfire and fireworks event, as well as the winter lights and the creel tree, since 2015.

It posted: "We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has generously donated to our bucket collection on switch-on night and online via Justgiving. It's not too late to donate, via the link below! We are also so grateful to Ullapool Village Hall for collecting donations and arranging a raffle for our funds, which will be drawn at their Christmas Market tomorrow around 2pm.

"Thanks again everyone!"

To continue its displays year on year, the group undertakes a rolling programme of maintenance, refurbishment and replacement of equipment. This year it replaced 350m of the festoon lighting along Shore Street and West Shore Street.

It said: "There are a range of other annual costs, as well as the volunteer time, involved in keeping the dazzling displays up and running."
