VOLUNTEERS and local businesses who chipped in to a community lights display in Wester Ross have been thanked for their efforts.

The Ullapool Fire and Light community group made its remarks as the winter lights display was taken down for another year.

The group, helped by numerous volunteers, has hosted the community bonfire and fireworks event, as well as the winter lights and it's famous creel tree, since 2015.

The attractions have pulled in out-of-season visitors and were previously given a boost from an unexpected source when Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling hailed the creel tree via her Twitter feed, which has over 13 million followers.

The group posted: "There are so many of you who give us your valuable time, energy and skills to make the display what it is."

It gave special thanks to Ullapool Harbour Trust, Lodge St Martin 1217, Loch Broom Sailing Club, Angus Bruce Photography, Steven Gourlay Media, Ullapool's Community Choir, Three Sheets to the Wind and Tim Loftus.

The group hosted a visit from the Landward BBC rural affairs programme team which threw the spotlight on the creel tree and the community effort that goes into the winter lights effort.

The group added: "Finally, we are very grateful for the donations we have received through our Just Giving page, which will really help us for 2023/24."

The online appeal pulled in donations of £867, greatly exceeding the initial £500 target.

The group signed off: "It's time to say goodbye until we see you again for Bonfire Night!"
