Zero–waste food shop, Ullapool Unpacked is one of the four organisations which have been shortlisted for the social innovation challenge.

Ullapool Unpacked first launched in June of this year, with aims to reduce waste in the local community.

The Social Innovation Challenge is centred around a theme each year. Building on the legacy of COP26, the 2022 theme is: innovative solutions to climate change issues faced by rural communities in Scotland.

The programme will award up to £50,000 in grant funding to support the development of new social enterprise solutions, as well as tailored support to launch and implement the solution.

Project manager of Ullapool Unpacked, Evie Strange, said:"This funding would help us to open a full, bricks and mortar shop and Community Climate Hub for Ullapool and its surrounding areas.

"Providing access to affordable and sustainable shopping, workshops and resources, all with the community at its heart.

"All the shortlisted enterprises are doing fantastic work in rural areas, and even if we don't win we are just honoured to have made it to this final stage of the application.

We will see what happens!"
