PLANS for a commercial development in an area of Wester Ross have been tabled with Highland Council.

Joseph Ross wants to erect a café and joinery workshop with associated car parking and services on land 115 metres north-east of 11 Melvaig, near Gairloch.

A design statement submitted with the proposal says: "The intention is to provide a facility for both tourists and locals alike in an area where there is little in the way of café facilities. The café will also provide employment opportunities once the business has grown sufficiently.

"The joinery workshop will also provide employment and a facility for the applicant to grow his business in carpentry and furniture production. The designs have to be simple in design and cost efficient to build and fit in with the local architectural styles."

The external materials to be used to the external walls are larch cladding and render, the report says. UPVC windows (grey) will be incorporated throughout "as the site is in quite an exposed location". The roof finish would be natural slate.

It says the applicant may consider the provision of pods or glamping facilities on the site in future years.

It is now under consideration by Highland Council.
