Tonight's weather warning from the Met Office.

Winter is refusing to let up as the Met Office has issued another weather warning for snow and ice for much of the Highlands for tonight and follows high winds after a stormy night across the north.

The new warning for ice and snow is in force from 23.00 tonight until 09.00 on Saturday morning and brings with it concerns for travel disruption mostly on high level routes.

The areas affected are largely inland and extend from north of Perth, the Cairngorms and to just south of Inverness, the Great Glen and north to near Ullapool.

That means main arterial routes like the A9, A82, A86, A897, A87, A96 could all be affected and motorists are urged to travel with care.

The Met Office stated that locals could expect: “Some higher level roads and railways are likely to be affected, leading to longer journeys by car, bus and train

“Icy patches are possible on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths. Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces”
