THE pomp and ceremony was typically focused on rainy London while Ross-shire basked in glorious sunshine and soaked up the party atmosphere.
Those who enjoyed street parties and informal gatherings across the county would probably argue they got the best deal during the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
Big gatherings in towns including Tain and Dingwall and smaller get-togethers here, there and everywhere confirmed the simple fact that everybody loves a good party.
"We should do this more often!" was perhaps the most-repeated phrase ringing out across Ross-shire. In terms of building and maintaining a sense of community in challenging times, that’s actually not a bad idea.
Surely we don’t need to wait for another set-piece event or big state occasion either. Ross County’s SPL survival next season would be cause for celebration for starters.
Unlikely victories over the Old Firm or local rivals Inverness Caledonian Thistle could keep us going between now and then. Food for thought?
