A CREW member of a life-saving charity is training to undertake an epic challenge to raise funds for the charity this summer.

Daniel Elliot, a volunteer crew member at Kyle of Lochalsh lifeboat station for three years, decided to push his limits and go beyond RNLI Mayday walk a mile campaign by pledging to run 40km over 9 munros before cycling 25km back to the lifeboat station, all in one day.

Speaking of his challenge, Mr Elliot said: "The past couple of years have been incredibly hard for lifeboat stations all around the coast, between the increase in callouts nationally and the pandemic curtailing most fundraising efforts. I love being part of the crew and wanted to do my bit to try and raise some funds seeing as we haven’t been able to hold any of our regular fundraisers over the past two years. We have recently recruited some new volunteer crew, and it costs approximately £3100 to kit out and train each new crew member, so I want to try and raise some money to help the station out."

In his spare time, Mr Elliot enjoys keeping fit by hill running and mountain biking. He likes to push himself and has decided to undertake a mountainous challenge to help raise funds for the lifeboat station.

The challenge will see him running 40km over the 9 peaks of the Kintail munros, with an altitude gain of over 4000 metres, before then jumping on his bike and cycling the 25km back to the lifeboat station.

He will undertake the Nine Peaks of Kintail Marathon on July 9, and has set up a Just Giving page to help raise funds at the following link: http://justgiving.com/fundraising/9peaksofkintail
